What most people call the shoulder is really several joints that combine with tendons and muscles to allow the arm to perform a wide range of motions, from scratching your back to throwing the perfect pitch. As an extremely mobile joint that plays a central role in the action of a major extremity, the shoulder is at risk for injury. Frequent problems include sprains, strains, dislocations, tendonitis, bursitis, torn rotator cuffs, fractures, and arthritis.
